Thanks for those links Aileen and information about those groups/activities. i've only taken a cursory glance so far, but will definitely spend more time with them. The Social Impact work is very interesting to me for many reasons, as is the work of others in a European context working with border issues, from Christian Phillip Muller and Heath Bunting's crossing projects to the Deportation Class and noborder projects. i also saw a video work and print zine by (can't remember the name off hand) in the Prague Biennale about mortality for those attempting to cross into "fortress Europe." but i don't have enough of a context to critically engage with much of this work, even though the connection with border conflict in the US seems apparent. but i'm very interested in how the different contexts are dealth with. Alex Rivera's videos are an interesting documentation of one aspect of the US situation. and the problem, for me at least, is how dealing with these issues becomes a collaboration with real listening as you stated earlier. this is sort of my problem with my own activities around issues like race, and what i tried to convey in the "privilege" article. how to re-define self-interest/desire? ryan
