I used to be a lot more "idealistic" than i am now, if we use the term in the common way. Connoting a certain coalition between (in the broadest sense) moral (as in defining guidelines for conduct) bearing and a vision. Hoping that conduct according to these "ideals" (which are experienced as having elementary power "to turn people's hearts") will help fulfill this vision. And if it doesn't then nevertheless.. - an issue of belief.

That kind of behavior can be cool. It can help, it is great and productive behavior, if you respect humans as they are - and don't oversimplify - and stay calm if things don't work out.

Philosophically though, i don't really like idealism (here roughly meaning a view in which every object is derived from an "ideal" - type). And i believe we live in very idealized times.. The cultural industries have had a fairly long time to extensively refine the virtual, idealized lives that people are being lived - over and over again. They even manage to garb their ideals in style...
