[new] gathering bits and pieces (Avg. Score: none / Raters: 0) (#6)

For me, a very important part of what I learn from "my" authors takes place in the exchange about their texts, in their reactions to my interpretations of their ideas. What fascinates me most are the bits and pieces that go into making a finished text, the "remnants" that are left over - footnotes that are ultimately deemed extraneous, auxiliary thoughts that would seem to ramble away from the main point, even though they hold a potential for being developed in a different direction, the motivation for writing in a certain way about a certain topic, which books, art works or experiences contributed to developing the perspective that is finally published.
This has also been a strong motivation for my involvement with Discordia: I think there are so many different places on the Internet for publishing finished (or almost finished) essays and articles. Whether you read them on the screen or print them out makes no significant difference. What I would like to see Discordia become - or at least one of its functions - is a place for collecting these kinds of "remnants": the thoughts leading to ideas that are further developed, questions that might open up different perspectives, fragments and extraneous footnotes. It seems to me that this might be one way of combining "old" and "new" ways of learning, as you suggest, in sharing and exchanging the development of ideas, in addition to the online texts that can be "consumed" as fast as one can read.
