Global Priority is on view at the Herter Art Gallery on the campus of University of Massachusetts, Amherst from November 6th - December 19, 2003.

Global Priority explores how artists are responding to the currently accelerating hybridization of identities in relation to dispersed international flows of economic and cultural values. The title of the exhibition refers to one of the standard services of the U.S. Postal Service. As such, it invites audiences to think about globalization in relation to multiple, scattered identities bound up with citizenship and locality. It also suggests an interrogation of hegemonic priorities in response to global economic and cultural dispersion.
The exhibition includes works by Dennis Adams, Ludovic Burel, Javier Cambre, Rutherford Chang, Mark Dion, Grady Gerbracht, Paul Isenrath, Jesal Kapadia, Nina Katchadourian, William Kentridge, Emily Jacir & Anton Sinkewich, Susan Jahoda, Pia Lindman, Mark Lombardi, Jeorge Macchi, Liz Miller, Santu Mofokeng, Olu Oguibe, Inhwan Oh, Josh On & Future Farmers, David Opdyke, Kyong Park, Cesare Pietrousti, Walid Raad, Micheal Rakowitz, Allan Sekula, Trebor Scholz & Carol Flax, Superflex, Minnette Vári, Alex Villar, Peter Walsh, Krzystof Wodiczko, and Kumi Yamashita.

A catalog, edited by the exhibition's curators Susan Jahoda and Grady Gerbracht will be published by Routledge Press as Volume 15:3 of Rethinking Marxism. The catalog contains documentation of the works, essays contextualizing the projects, as well as information about the artists.

Global Priority opens in conjunction with Rethinking Marxism's 5th International Gala Conference: "MARXISM AND THE WORLD STAGE"
