your comments about exoticism and listening are important for me... the intersections of the personal and social (that it seems the Western -male?- mind has made conceptually distinct) have been important points of activity for me to look at - how self-interest/desire is constructed and becomes a foundation for social policy. and, as you maybe suggest, a conversation between parties that don't agree on, say the rights of autonomous citizens because they perceive their relationship to others differently, is a difficult thing to maintain.
i would be interested to know more about the situations of conflict and tension you mention in Austria, if you could point me in any directions.
maybe cross referencing local tensions could be a start?
