you make a fair point, and i didn't mean to distract from the real point of the discussion (so if i did distract, then was i a hoax too?? :-P )...

curious, what would rite-aid have done if you didn't sign the privacy agreement? would they just refuse to fill your prescription? do you get anything in return for signing it?

there was this great belief in silicon valley during the boom that people's personal information could really be bought (from customers themselves) if the price was right, i.e., if you offered them something useful in return. i think that a lot of people now are realizing that their is no real price you can put on your personal info, because once its out there, its out there for good...
