[new] a fine lady (Avg. Score: none / Raters: 0) (#2)

Although I have no idea who advises her about clothing and make-up (I'm sure someone does and they are probably paid handsomely for it), she is undoubtedly a good representative of the current coalition government under Wolfgang Schüssel, who cultivates the *appearance* of a "wise elder statesman" by remaining conspicuously silent on controversial issues. Her very "lady-like" appearance fits in well with this - one of the campaign posters claims that she can speak with 101 heads of state in their own language (to which someone added "and still makes no sense" on a poster in our neighborhood). Since the office of president is mostly just a figurehead function in Austria, maybe it would actually be better to have her in a position, where she can't really do anything (like assuring the Italian government that it was a good idea to arrest members of the PublixTheatreVolxCaravan leaving Genoa), but I would still hate to see her elected to represent this country in an international context.

That said, I only just discovered this morning that I have been missing an ongoing debate about this very issue in the newspaper (comes from just skimming the first few pages before breakfast instead of reading the commentaries in the back). However, I purposely posted this to the "filter-it-yourself" section, because it is obviously filtered through my highly subjective and selectively informed perspective.
