Why do you try to draw these lins in the sand between net art and software art and net dot art and net art? Are not these definitions often put in place to empower some museum's creator to put a price tag on the artist? Clement Greenberg is often cited in the net art context. And it was like hearing him speak through the mouth of a net art curator of a major museum:" I know good net art when I see it." "Well, there is good net art and then there is bad net art." At a net art conference this was enforced by dozens of references to Picasso and descriptions on how then to sell that damn link. Why is it so important to you to define what art// net art is? People write books about the history of net art. I wonder if video had the priviledge of having books dedicated to its hectically formed canon already after eight years of its appearance. I'm more interested in varying forms of criticality in these pieces. Brian talked about the setting of values with the stone thrown at a demonstration as cap stone, as north pole- as orientation. Many artists using new technologies are inventive with code and keen on design but rarely is the critique specific and beyond wht a museum would tolerate. How was that for a short comment?
