With Aileen I think that the hip notion of community is overused and that we should find other terms also because the term community, at least in the US, is instrumentalized by this government to departmentalize groups of citizens to make them more managable.
Would not you agree that most "online communities" are imagined ones? Is a narrative net.art piece a realistic way to connect people? Community grouped around which notion? Could you give a few examples of pieces of web-based art that really managed to create a sustaionable community?

To bring people together, to interconnect them, is indeed a wonderful and worthwhile endeavor online and off. But I don't see the art context as the best format for the building of community. Time and again, artists like to flatter themselves by presenting their projects in a way that seems like they managed this worthy goal of community organization. Please correct me by giving a few successful examples.

building a community isn't a dream.

the text nature of its language however means that we cannot pull far back before the patterns become a grey strip. it can't see itself.

text is developed as a symbol for use in a gravitational place. stilted.

this net is more dimensional and shifting.

for a community to see itself, the hive mind become conscious? to alleviate its own anxiety of what it is, would it be helpful if it communicated with blocks more suited to scaling, movement, sound. the stuff of electricity.

shorter sentences perhaps? little bits enabling deviation in many directions.

perhaps BEADGEE is a step in this direction. a language of objects. the multilingual reading of form.

maybe a necessary network tool for growing communities is a wordless play area. a performance space.
