Filtered through a habitual propensity to approve of criticism that seems to suggest I made the right decision:
Quiet as it is on Discordia at the moment (despite the daily growing number of users), I would like to hijack a discussion taking place elsewhere, specifically because I want to filter it through my own habitual prejudices. The discussion is a result of questions that Brian Holmes posted to Nettime about Fascism in the USA?.

[- Is there no escape from the Matrix?

Obviously, there is no escape for me personally, because I live with two members of what is presumably a major segment of the target audience for Matrix I&II - two male adolescent action film and computer game enthusiasts. For that reason, I have been enjoying reading the comments about the new film on Nettime and Bagasch, especially Erik Davis' article. Yesterday evening, though, I had a conversation with a neighbor that made me wonder how much point there really is to critical theoretical discussions about pop culture phenomena.

[- What is the difference between igniting a discussion and posting an essay or announcement?

If you have already posted something to Discordia, or even just thought about posting, you have probably noticed that there are two links in the menu box on the top right to choose from. As we have tried to explain in various places, such as the FAQ and the different pages for either posting a short text to ignite a discussion or posting an essay/announcement, this distinction reflects a specific intention on the part of the Discordia development group. How useful does this distinction appear to you?

[- I'd Like to teach the World to Sing (via New Media Conference #5,844)

Here I am at yet another one of our favorite self-validating events- the ever present "New Media Conference". What better way to begin the momentous multi-day gathering, than with an ice breaker game! Our moderator has placed words into a hat. We are each to draw a word and use it in a sentence about the goals for the weekend, a sort of group manifesto using contrived words from the magicians hat... But here is my question, where did these words come from? The very words in which we are supposed to describe our selves, define ourselves, our goals, our objectives. Are these not contrived, preassigned, ordered from the new media dictionary via the man behind the curtain?
