Samhain / Halloween / Dias de los Muertos / Allerheiligen ...
Take your pick and come by from October 29 to November 3 to leave an epitaph, parting wishes, wise thoughts and witty words as Discordia prepares to depart for the netherworld, the other side, perpetual archivization and/or possible future reincarnations.

[editor's note, by Aileen]
While the investigation of Steve Kurtz and the Critical Art Ensemble is being discussed across all the relevant mailing lists, it occurred to me that Discordia might be useful for other thoughts about the work of the Critical Art Ensemble not directly related to the current situation. For that reason I decided to move this post from last year to a more prominent position again.
For news, background information and calls for solidarity, see http://www.caedefensefund.org
While reviewing the larger bits of writing I have done over the last few years, I realised, slightly worriedly, that all the major arguments are illustrated with quotes from the Critical Art Ensemble.

Maybe this has been all over the lists already... since I'm not hip enough to read lists these days I don't know ;-) . So, forgive me if you've already seen the one about the people on the net who scammed a net scammer. Anyway, I was just thinking about how much fun net art/activism/culture can be when you just do it naturally, without awareness of all the Certified Art and Cultural Work being done in a similar vein ... if you think about it, there's some familiar looking tactics in there...

The other day, the Queen of England visited my town, Toulouse, in south western France. First she went to church, then she had lunch with the mayor, then she christened an airliner for Virgin Atlantic Airways at the Airbus Works, and then she went home. To my personal perplexity, I have always been fascinated by Her Royal Highness. A great big crowd of people turned out to see her. So I decided to go along and watch, try and discover what hides behind this aberration of mine. Royalty is a bit like the appendix at the bottom end of the human intestine, an artefact that has survived in modern times. In some countries it has gone off with a bang, in others it still survives...

Discordia has been very quiet recently, and I wonder why it has such difficulty gaining and keeping momentum as a place of community. Discordia has been likened to a discussion forum, which I find apt, and to a blog, which I find unadapted.
What are the ingredients for turning austere Discordia into a community with swing?
Here are some ideas to start a discussion...

This may be quite obvious, but as discussions often seem to concentrate on whatever post is at the top of the front section, I would like to call attention to one of the differences again: what has been posted to Discordia stays here.

The difference between what is called "real" and the so named "virtual" has many facets. Recently, when I became stuck into slow-going, time-absorbing work, with almost no contact to others, I came upon the rate of interests....
