From time to time, I yack here about my mailing list and other electronic "push" communication withdrawal - i.e., I get overwhelmed by media that come to me, rather than letting me go to them when I want to (like weblogs, websites, etc.) On that note, Jakob Nielsen's thoughts on IM, Not IP (Information Pollution.) Although I agree with many of his sentiments, his proposed solution and conclusion leave me a bit uneasy. Should we predetermine what "hot topics" are of interest to us on a discussion group? Do we really want software to "protect users' time just as strictly as the most vigilant executive secretary protects a CEO's calendar"?

Kenta Ohji, a philosopher involved in the (now-dormant) project NAM (New Associationist Movement), when i told him about my plans for the future, commented something like this: He said that he liked the way i based my plans on function, on what i wanted to do and achieve, instead of status and the role i would want to play. Well, that cheered me up. I was then 17 years old.
Now, three years down the road, the question what box to stick my head & shoulders into has nevertheless kept on nagging. I have even started considering professions (mostly induced by different concerned parties' propositions).. Only to wind up feeling quite uncomfortable about those boxes' inside.

A colleague, whose girlfriend at the time was living at the other end of the country, once declared that if he took all the male sex organ lengthening stuff that turned up in his Inbox, he would no longer have to physically travel to her in order to have intercourse with her. I am always amazed, each morning, by the number of such messages that crowd their way through my awesome antispam filter. And I wonder who are the cohorts of people who, each day, spend their time inventing new ways to spell "pe}_n1s", in order to get the enlarging message of their mysterious clients through to me?

Despite being one of the Discordia Developers, I have a mildy-infamous dislike of online discussion forums. Well, perhaps "despite" isn't the right word - my feelings as a type-B "pull" personality facing the type-A "push" world of contemporary list culture led me to lower-impact discussion settings like community weblogs.
But, what happens when online communities are used not for discussion, but for the writing of "history?" Can "everybody" write the history of the Apple Computer? What about the history of Internet art?

Discordia is interested in expanding its circle of editors: Editors are people who make connections between ideas, notice interesting topics and post them or invite others to post. Editors make use of the "Nepotism" feature of Discordia to influence the direction of discussions, while the "Democracy" feature ensures openness in all directions.

Why I love the power of New Technology
I have been fascinated by what technology can do for advancing ideas and thoughts. In 1988 I was involved in a project to train Palestinians in using small format cameras to film their own lives.
