In the recent makeworld paper#3 (distributed at n5m, available at makeworlds.org), another one of those.. texts (i guess it's basically manifesto-style) jointly written by Geert L. and Florian S. gets the last word.. Here are some (hopefully not too suggestive) questions (i really wanted to get this into the question corner and not the review-section - to try it out ;-):

The internet allows one to connect to a potentially infinite amount of content and people, all through the mediated view of a screen. This opens up tremendous potential for communication, inspiration and expression, yet at the same time due to the limitations of experience and lack of focus such a broad level of access to information doesn't it tend to speak to the lowest common impulse ?

[- The first principle of community is exclusion.

Can we get over the collective delusion that we have to be nice to everybody we meet on the internet? The wonderful essay by Ivan Illich, "Silence is a Commons", underpins the typical "tragedy" of internet interaction—the idiocy of the commons—except that it's not a tragedy. Rather, it's an inevitability of putting too many people in the same place and expecting, with the tone of a benevolent autocrat, everyone to behave themselves. Without some form of exclusion, what might have been a community degenerates into a worthless brawl.

Before there ever was
www.discordia.us
...there was Eris Discordia, Goddess of Chaos; feared and misunderstood by the Greeks and later by their imitators, the Romans. Eris Discordia found her Prophets in Malcalypse the Younger and Omar Ravenhurst in the late 1950's in a bowling alley in California; the inspired geniuses/madmen who later created the Principa Discordia.

She has been credited (blamed?) for starting the Trojan War after being snubbed for an invitation to a Party of the other Gods and Goddesses; see
http://www.bulfinch.org/fables/bull27.html
for the cut-and-dried version. She's not as mean-spirited as they make her out to be, though. For more information, consult your pineal gland.

I know some of you are interested in the growing bloggers research community. Just to announce that the Harvard Berkman Center is having a 'bloggercon' next weekend-- a conference on the bloggers impact on political journalism. Bloggers Conference Do you think I should head over and write a report?

Hey all,
I messed up in my last blog!
Here is the correct URL for for Bloggercon at Harvard University.
I also found out that this conference costs $500 for participants, which totally ruins my plan to pay a visit. Unless you may have a tip or two on how to sneak in conferences without paying the fee?
