[- Joe Blogs goes to see the Queen

The other day, the Queen of England visited my town, Toulouse, in south western France. First she went to church, then she had lunch with the mayor, then she christened an airliner for Virgin Atlantic Airways at the Airbus Works, and then she went home. To my personal perplexity, I have always been fascinated by Her Royal Highness. A great big crowd of people turned out to see her. So I decided to go along and watch, try and discover what hides behind this aberration of mine. Royalty is a bit like the appendix at the bottom end of the human intestine, an artefact that has survived in modern times. In some countries it has gone off with a bang, in others it still survives...

Discordia has been very quiet recently, and I wonder why it has such difficulty gaining and keeping momentum as a place of community. Discordia has been likened to a discussion forum, which I find apt, and to a blog, which I find unadapted.

What are the ingredients for turning austere Discordia into a community with swing?

Here are some ideas to start a discussion...

One of the intellectual property battlefields - scientific publishing has been undergoing deep changes for some time. The polarity of views is visible as anywhere else, where op-and-pro-ponents of IP shout out lound and bark at each other. And again, someone appears who wants to introduce peace.

This may be quite obvious, but as discussions often seem to concentrate on whatever post is at the top of the front section, I would like to call attention to one of the differences again: what has been posted to Discordia stays here.

At the conference Public Art Policies in Vienna this weekend a question of terms came up again and again. Are we using the same words in the same way? Which words need to be redefined, replaced, or - as Simon Sheikh suggested - reclaimed?

[- Queer Funding in South Asia/New Media ?

I am writing a brief note on queer funding for the arts in South Asia (non existent)
However, I am trying to engage in a project that looks at the queer arts in a more positive form and not as a victimized community.
As such The Fabulous Laboratory (www.fabuluoslab.com) is an empowered organization that looks at funding agencies not as a concern that wants to be side-lined or specialized as a queer organization, but instead wishes to pitch itself as an organization that is at the forefront of cutting edge cinema, lit and new media. for more details, do visit The Fabulous Laboratory at www.fabulouslab.com
Do post your comments in regard to this issue. Thanks
Vish

Here is a piece that I wrote for issue 27 of Mute Magazine, where I am currently Information Politics editor. I am currently composing the second part of this piece, and will post some of the working material from that here over the next few days.
